Macpherson Kelley Business School

MK is really proud to offer our lawyers the opportunity to participate in our Macpherson Kelley Business School. A key purpose at Macpherson Kelley is to help people achieve their potential. To facilitate this, our Business School was established in 2015 to be a strategic point of difference providing quality learning and development to staff.

Flex+

Flexibility is really important to us. Our values define how we work with each other. We don’t take ourselves too seriously. We work hard and still make time to enjoy life outside of work. At Macpherson Kelley, we have a unique work environment where employees have freedom and flexibility to integrate and balance work with their personal lives. We call this program Flex+. This was offered to staff pre-Covid. We do this by offering flexibility for employees to stager their work hours and vary their work location around client and role requirements. We trust you to get the work done.

Macpherson Kelley Foundation

In January 2016, the Macpherson Kelley Foundation was launched. The role of the foundation is to engage and manage philanthropic activities for the firm and provides financial and other support to communities in need. This includes a volunteer program, community involvement and pro bono work. In 2022, MK were the proud recipients of the silver award for Best Overall Program in the SME category in the 2022 Australian Workplace Giving Awards.

Remuneration & Career Growth

What do we offer our Graduates?

We are proud to offer a National Law Graduate Program. We hire Graduates in Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria.

Our law graduate program is 12 months comprised of 4 rotations each lasting 3 months.

We focus on building strong business-minded lawyers, able to work closely with clients and understand their challenges and opportunities and add value to their businesses. So you may be on the floor of a client’s factory, in a car yard or transport depot, in a client’s commercial office in the CBD or front and centre at a mediation.

Our graduates all have access to the unique commercial professional development as part of the Macpherson Kelley Business School including Bootcamps with practical scenarios and case studies.

Our graduates' complete Supervised Workplace Training (SWT) that allows for practical on the job training. This is different from Practical Legal Training (PLT) offered by many firms, as we believe it is critical to get hands-on real-life experience as early as possible in your career.

What Graduates Say About Them
  • The people. Everyone is friendly, welcoming and seems to genuinely want to help out one another. Makes working here enjoyable.
  • Exposure to multiple practice areas as a graduate & the flexibility to work from home is amasing.
  • There is a friendly and welcoming culture. Senior people take a genuine interest in graduate development.
  • Benefits include a culture that values diversity and inclusivity. As a junior having the ability to work directly with senior lawyers offers huge learning benefits. Additionally, the size of the firm enables juniors to gain a real sense of responsibility on matters at an early stage.
  • The social life at MK is great, I feel very supported by both my team and the firm as a whole.
  • The pay is slightly lower than some of my other graduate friends, however, I do nowhere near as much overtime as them
  • Workflow fluctuates a lot - sometimes there are periods where it can be very quiet.
  • There's a bit of separation between the Melbourne and Dandenong offices, it would be nice if there was more overlap.
  • Different teams have different cultures.
  • Long commute.
