Pros & Cons

  • Welcoming place to work, and very understanding superiors when it comes to taking a little extra time to learn processes and the work. Legitimate incentives to continue study with pay rises and study leave.
  • Extremely welcoming and friendly people and team culture. Everyone is very approachable, easy to talk to and understanding of each other's circumstances.
  • I believe the best thing about working here is close knit client teams and the inclusivity of these teams.
  • Having an employer who wants to invest in you and help your professional development.
  • Flexibility, hybrid working, company social events - celebrating things like wear it purple day
  • Nature of the business, but work tends to clump a touch through the year, some months are crazily busy whereas others are quiet.
  • The inconsistent nature of consulting and meeting client deadlines. Can have the occasional lull of work with little to do, and other times have multiple competing jobs requiring many extra hours to complete.
  • I think the worst thing can be the technology at times. IT systems or devices not working.
  • Team with no set office days which mean it's difficult to create connections with co-workers.
  • Environment can be too quiet at times.

Career Prospects
From the start my managers were open about the fact that there would be no barriers to promotions (length of time at company, education) and exemplifying good hard work would be rewarded. I have seen this play out in the team already.

Corporate Social Responsibility
There's been a big push in our office regarding sustainability, by implementing sustainability metrics and strategies to clients. I have not been a part of this project, but I support it a lot.

Culture
8.0
Culture
The company’s culture is very collaborative. Work is often split by client team and has a hierarchy of consultants (often leads the team), reviewers and then doers. This structure for completing work is quite flexible however and often the consultant might complete the work and request the doer to review it. In this way, client teams are flexible and collaborative. Colleagues are very social with designated team days and catch-ups organised frequently.

Diversity

Diversity
The company is very diverse with a strong representation of gender, ethnicity and religious diversity. In terms of recruitment, recruiters are very aware of mitigating unconscious bias in selection while still choosing the candidate of best fit. I have only been at the company for a short time but I have not noticed any restrictions in recruitment, retention and promotion based on identity factors such as race, gender, sexual preference or religion, the company values are strongly ingrained in embracing the benefits diversity provides at a global level as well as all the tiers of management to individual client teams.

Management
Very pleased with my managers. I am given a lot of guidance and discussion on forward-thinking and have received a lot of recognition for my past work and performance. My manager is always open to listening to any concerns I may have and will pass them on to higher up. There is also a lot of effort put in to ensure workloads and job variety is reasonable across the team and reallocate jobs when needed.

Space and facilities are quite good, central location and dress code is 'dress for your day' which gives a relaxed atmosphere

Recruitment

Recruitment
The process was smooth. So the interview process was very smooth. There were 3 interviews, a recorded video interview with pre-set questions, an interview over Microsoft teams with 2 members of the retirement team and a final face-to-face interview. of time to prepare in between assessments and interviews.

Salary

Salary
In the role I work, my pay is very closely tied to my professional qualification with the Actuaries Institute. This creates a direct incentive to follow professional development and offers control over my pay raises. Typically bonuses are paid annually based on company performance as well as individual performance. As I was a new starter, I had a partial individual performance for the half year I had worked to the date of the bonus.

Training

Training
The company provides a range of formal and informal training. Typically regulatory and contextual background training is taught early on. In addition professionalism and code of conduct is also taught in formal training sessions. Much of the technical and practical training is conducted on the job, but owing to the ease of communication and culture of the company, this on-the-job training is very accommodating and in-depth.

Work Hours
The company is flexible but my team's hours are led by the client/deals we work on. I find senior team members are generally really accommodating with this however and don't expect over the top hours from analysts.

Well, have made net zero pledges recently and are working towards this goal, as well as influencing others to do the same
