The Story of AIG Australia

AIG Australia Limited is a part of the wider AIG group, and its ultimate parent company is American International Group, Inc. (AIG). Headquartered in New York, AIG serves customers in around 70 countries and jurisdictions. This makes them one of the world’s leading providers of life insurance and retirement services.

AIG has operated in Australia since 1957. They serve individual, commercial, and institutional customers through one of the most extensive worldwide property-casualty networks. Their products range from travel and accident, and health policies for consumers to financial lines, marine, and property and casualty insurance protection for businesses.

Their success is built on being forward-thinking and responsive in times of change. They have learned the importance of staying focused on the future. For instance, they were among the first to address issues like cyber security and continue to provide solutions that meet the needs of clients.

Culture & vibe

AIG is driven to handle complex challenges every day with innovation and optimism. To do this, they invest in the right people and provide space for them to thrive. They build a culture that respects colleagues and values their unique perspectives. This is their commitment and how they build an environment of belonging.

They welcome different educational, professional, and social viewpoints, and build a workplace where colleagues feel valued and free to express their individual needs, ambitions, and opinions. That way, people can work well together and be great team players.

AIG’s culture of allyship also inspires employees and colleagues to support one another’s professional development, either through training, mentoring, or networking opportunities. These forums include the AIG Academy, Global Sponsorship Program, Accelerated Leadership Development Program, General Insurance Professional Associate Program, and Employee Resource Groups (ERGs).

Recruitment process

The first step to joining the AIG team is to search for the open position that most aligns with your skill sets and submit your application online. If they think you can be a good fit for the role you choose, you will be invited to the interviews. The initial interviews are usually in virtual, pre-recorded video interview format. You will have the opportunity to answer behavioural-based questions to share your experiences and skills with them.

If you are shortlisted, you will also participate in the final round of interviews. These may consist of two or three interviews focusing on learning more about your experiences and skills. The occasion will also give you the opportunity to meet the members of their team and learn more about AIG.

Career prospects

The company encourages “growing in place”, which is career mobility within AIG. The program provides flexibility for employees to pursue their interests and expand their talents in different roles across different parts of the organisation. A member of a team may start in one department, and then grow into new roles, skills, and areas of interest.

To enable this growth, the company offers ways to bridge technical and professional skill gaps, especially to under-represented talent. Their employees frequently access AIG’s virtual catalogue of thousands of learning modules. In 2022, more than 560,000 LinkedIn Learning videos and 87,000 courses were voluntarily completed.
