Please tell us about promotion possibilities and fill us in on what it takes to move up the ranks.
I feel that it is generally easy to be promoted and recognised for your contribution to the firm. There is a structured program of check-ins with performance coaches, and most senior staff take a genuine interest in people within the company so they have a finger on the pulse about who is contributing to the work / culture at the firm. Between these two things it is quite easy for contributions to be noticed by senior staff.

Lots of people so hard to get a promotion and occurs based on arbitrary timeframes.

Until we become associates, there's a standard progression pathway which is consistent to everyone. After that, it becomes merit-based - and I've seen examples of SAs being made up earlier than usual. It seems like that usually happens where an SA has demonstrated exceptional ability (i) with clients and (ii) managing matters.

Large firm, so need to hit certain time lengths to be promoted + build out experience and CV. Emphasis on being at the competency level needed at promoted level before being promoted. But big firm and lots of promotions each year.

Lots of opportunity to move up internally or out of practice into an in house lawyer role.

Journey goes - paralegal, clerk, senior paralegal, graduate, lawyer, associate, senior associate, managing associate, partner Promotion relies on positive 360 feedback which I think encourages great behaviours and positive interactions between employees. I imagine billable hours also play a part

The promotion and career progression structure is very transparent, and oftentimes tied to the years you have been with the firm (especially as a younger lawyer). Working with highly skilled/intelligent peers, good training, and exposure to work of a first-rate caliber, there are also many opportunities to progress externally.

The progression has occurred in line with the expected trajectory at this stage of my career. I am unable to speak for how that will look in a few years time once I have settled. Looking at those around me, they seem to be satisfied with their progression.
