The Story of SITA Australia

SITA was founded in February 1949 by 11 European airlines as a cooperative providing communications between airlines and airports. Based in Geneva, the company (at that time was known as Société Internationale de Télécommunications Aéronautiques) has evolved from providing only network services as a cooperative to providing a range of IT and communication services to its members today.

SITA has more than 550 air transport community members and 3,200 customers, supporting them globally in 220 countries and territories. They work closely with airlines, airports, air freight organisations, ground handlers, and governments (to strike the balance of secure borders and seamless travel).

SITA’s communications network connects and bridges the air transport community’s telecommunications, data exchange and processing to cover 95% of all international air travel destinations. They have 10 largest offices in Montreal, Atlanta, Singapore, Delhi, London (2), Geneva, Prague, Dubai, and Letterkenny, two command centres in Montreal and Singapore, and five key service desks supporting their customer operations worldwide.

Culture & vibe

SITA focuses on the needs of their customers and colleagues, and the big picture:  operational excellence, industry collaboration, and seamless passenger journey. That is why they always try to find better ways of doing things: faster, smarter, and easier. They make changes and constant improvements for themselves and their customers.

And they do it together as a team because they will achieve more when they collaborate. They have four values to guide employees in how they work: Be their best, Step up for the customer, Do it together, and Keep it Simple. Cultural diversity, development, flexible working, and the high standards are implemented when working at SITA.

Because of the global nature of their organisation and the air transport industry, SITA’s workplace is all about diversity. Diverse experience, countries and cultures are represented in their workforce To be successful at SITA, you really need to embrace diversity and inclusion.

Recruitment process

SITA has paid internships called Accelerate graduate program. The global graduate network allows graduates to connect with leaders across SITA, wellbeing events, management training, and mentoring programs which pairs graduates with experienced people throughout the business areas for mutual learning.

To apply for the internship, as well as permanent roles, you need to apply online on their site. The candidates will be shortlisted based on their resumes. There might also be an online test for some technology-based roles. The shortlisted candidates will have two or three rounds of interviews that include a technical round and an HR round.

The interview also consists of two parts: group work to do a case study and individual interviews. In the group work, they will give you an amount of time to read the case and question, and more time to brainstorm with your teammates and draw a conclusion. In the individual interview, they will ask some questions about the job profile or projects mentioned in your CV. They might also ask you to prepare a presentation for the final interview.

Career prospects

For internal mobility, SITA provides their workforce with local and global career opportunities that allow each employee to access career advancement, relocations, opportunities to expand knowledge and experience or develop cross-functional skill sets.

Employees can also access world-class platforms for their learning and development needs through SITA’s two core platforms, Coursera and Skillsoft, covering a range of specialties and technical skills. To improve the learning platforms and resources, they also review the needs of each profession. In 2021, they also began a new people management development program called Unleash.
