Pros & Cons

  • Great work-life balance, surrounded by brilliant people
  • It is a very big organisation and there are many opportunities outside your business area. There are secondment roles opportunities which give you a chance to try a role outside your speciality. The Graduate Program has provided excellent conferences all throughout the year which are very valuable for our professional development.
  • Great workplace culture with lots of career development. People are friendly and willing to help.
  • Flexible working arrangements Ability to move around to different teams Different initiatives that run in the bank, that you're able to join The number of networks you're able to make
  • A great place to work - there is flexible work culture, we are strongly focused on helping our community, plus the pay is good too :)
  • Fairly strict graduate rotation policy, not full freedom of where we can rotate
  • Large company so at times it can be very difficult to get what you need quickly and hard to deliver projects unless you know the right people.
  • Red tape, things can sometimes move slowly Lots of meetings, some unnecessary
  • Remuneration compared to the market.
  • The legacy tech that slows down development can sometimes be frustrating/require workarounds.

Corporate Social Responsibility
There are several initiatives such as the domestic violence help scheme for customers where victims of DV are given a loan, a new phone and groceries to help them escape dangerous situations. My project has a strong focus on customer requirements and needs. Particularly I've been working on making the page more accessible for people with disabilities related to sight and users of screen readers. They try to reach out explicitly to Aboriginal and Torres Islander peoples and encourage them to apply for special internships. They also do amazing volunteer work with children in high school that I have personally taken part in multiple times.

Culture
Very flexible working arrangements. Team culture is good, people are friendly. Feel fairly comfortable talking to higher management, and General Managers and Executive Managers etc sit amongst normal team members.

I have been part of my companies LGBT+ network and have helped organize events through 2019 that have been open to staff and the general public to attend and learn about the nuances of the LGBT+ community such as intersectionality, bias, relationships, families and rights.

Office Work Environment
While it varies between buildings, the offices are generally very good. They are bright and open with kitchen facilities (and tea/instant coffee) available. The (unofficial?) dress code for anyone in a computer-related role is t-shirt and jeans

Recruitment
8.2
Recruitment
The hiring process had a few steps for the graduate program - first, an online application (inc resume & cover letter), then online assessments, a video interview and then an in-office assessment centre where we completed a number of activities as well as a face to face interview. Questions that aligned with the company values, including examples of when you have aligned with them. Group activity focusing on innovation and communication skills. A short presentation on a business-related topic. Use the STAR method. Come prepared with concrete examples. Spend some time to understand the Group's purpose and values and how you align with them

Graduates get a dedicated training program that is designed to help transition to the workplace. This includes presentation workshops, networking's skills, agile, and design thinking training. Additionally, engineers are regularly sent to conferences and encouraged to playback learnings to the team.

Work Hours

Work Hours
I work 8 hours a day - but my team is very flexible with my hours as long as I can make it to meetings, stand up etc. I prefer to come in and leave early, so I usually work 7:30-3:30 each day, and if I need to leave early then that's fine as long as I make up the time another day.
